— Ternium CEO
To reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% in 2030, we are implementing an investment agenda in environmentally friendly projects and technologies.
Increasing the use of scrap in the metal mix.
Expand carbon capture capacity in direct reduction facilities in Mexico.
Partially replace coal with charcoal in Brazil and Argentina operations.
Prioritize steelmaking technologies with lower specific emissions.
Since 2008 we adhere to the World Steel Climate Action Recognition Program. We have a firm commitment to maximize efficiency in our production processes and to reduce CO2 emissions and thus minimize the carbon footprint. In 2014 we launched an energy efficiency program to identify and implement improvements in the management of resources. Since then, ee have managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 125.000 tons per year, while we capture 210.000 tons of CO2 per year. With the same production matrix as in the global steel industry, our CO2 emission per ton of liquid steel produced is below the world average of 1.9.
