After 28 years of work, Wilson Velásquez, Transport Analyst, says goodbye to the company forever, taking with him his commitment, honesty, and kindness.
Wilson Velazquez’s work story started when he was 14 years old and was a high school student in the Cristo Rey de Itagüí Institute. Thanks to his father, who had a close relationship with the Sierra family, the owners of Ferrasa at that moment, now Ternium Colombia; Wilson joined the company with a part-time shift, cleaning steel rods in a welding plant, with permission granted by the Work Department.
Since then, he spent his days studying and working and doing his homework during the night. That discipline and commitment made him later a Warehouse Dispatcher, then he became an Industrial Weighing System Operator, he spent a long time in the Purchasing Department, he worked in FerTrans Company until it became Ferrasa in 2012, he got a Business Administration Degree, and then he joined Ternium’s Logistic Team, where he is a Transport Analyst. On January 4th he will officially leave his charge, to start new personal projects.
“Wilson was a role model for the company. His honesty and commitment made him stand out in Ternium, and the transport vendor companies always recognized him for his integrity. Highlighting his leadership skills and generosity. I wish him welfare in his new life, we have been working together for 15 years and I appreciate him because he has always been a loyal and correct person,” Anamaría Diaz, Supply Chain Manager, assures.
A lot of events had impacted Wilson’s life in these 28 years. One of them was when he witnessed and took part in the company’s expansion to different Colombian cities since 1997, and the acquisition of new production plants. But with no doubt, the most significant event for him was in 1999, the year in which he met Laura Sánchez, Commercial Counselor from the Industrial UEN, who is his actual wife, and both raised two girls, Tatiana of 17 years old, and Susana of 14 years old.
“Saying 'thanks’ is not enough, because this job was my life, and all I have got was thanks to the company. This has been my only job, my second home, it is a strong emotion that I can’t even describe, I have worked 10.220 days and 1.450 weeks here,” Wilson assures.
In the homage in honor of Wilson Velásquez’s years of work, Sebastián Castro, Ternium Colombia Director, said “he is a good person, he would never harm anyone, not even for fulfilling his purposes. Therefore, I’m sure he will succeed wherever he goes. I congratulate him, I know he is going to be okay.”
Some of the teachings that he left in Ternium, are to learn to hear and to work in teams in all the tasks, the empowerment and to work under the rules.
“Wilson has a big heart that gave to the company commitment, experience, and fellowship. He irradiates honesty, transparency, I think that his co-workers will remember his legacy. Absolute gratitude and his example will be always with us,” Sebastián Mejía, Planning Manager, expressed.
“I’ll miss the interaction with my co-workers, to talk with them, greet them, and share our days,” Wilson added. As a good adviser, the message that he left is the most important, we shouldn't lose our human sensibility, no matter the results, we should always help others.
