For the first time, Ternium and Techint E&C oined forces as Volunteers in Action to improve school infrastructure in Pesquería.
More than a decade ago, Ternium arrived in Pesquería. Considering the jobs generated by its largest operating unit in Latin America and its actions in favor of education, today it is already enjoying a more integrated and developed community.
This was demonstrated by the 28th edition of the Volunteers in Action Program, in which 200 people gathered to paint and clean classrooms and common areas, carry out maintenance and repairs such as the installation of new doors and waterproofing, as well as reforest with plants and trees the "Antonio D. Coello" High School, one of the participants in the Roberto Rocca After School Program.
Ternium workers and their families led the day, which was joined for the first time by colleagues from Techint Engineering and Construction, their families, and friends. In addition, students from CECyTE Pesquería and the Roberto Rocca Technical School collaborated, as well as parents, students, and teachers from the high school.
"We are very happy because this is an edition in which we joined 200 volunteers, a number that we had not reached for a long time, and it fills us with satisfaction because we see the fruits of the impact of the Roberto Rocca educational programs in Pesquería," said Allyson Treviño, Community Relations Senior Manager Ternium.
"After several years of cooperation, we notice a stronger spirit of volunteerism with people who at some point was part of or benefited from Ternium's educational programs and are now contributing to the community and the company," she added.
The call was answered by people who strongly bond with Pesquería and Ternium, such as Annette Hernández, auxiliary Business Partner at the Ternium Industrial Center. She is local school CECyTE, which benefited, among others, with a dining room thanks to the Gen Técnico Roberto Rocca program.
"I am from Pesquería and I have seen how the schools are changing, I wanted to come because there is a lack of help and because it is for ourselves, and if we support each other, we will grow better and faster," she said enthusiastically.
For Techint colleagues, this was a day of community integration. Families of collaborators who came to phase 3 of the Pesquería project, some from Brazil and Venezuela, joined the activities and enjoyed spending time with the rest of the volunteers.
"This project we are doing in Pesquería is going to leave a great mark and this has been a great opportunity to share our work," said Tulio López, Heavy Equipment Manager of Techint E&C, who attended with his wife Yureisith Ramos, and their children José Miguel and María.
This represented the first joint effort of the two Techint Group’s companies to support the community of Pesquería, becoming a benchmark for the future, said Adriana Valdés, Community Relations Leader of Techint Ingeniería y Construcción.
"The key is the people who are offering their time and hands to help us make this a reality," she added.
Slowly, but without stopping, Mrs. María Julia Hernández was painting one of the walls of the classrooms. She always joins volunteer activities. “It has been a pleasure," she said. Next to her, Diego Hernández, a resident of Colonia Colinas del Aeropuerto and a student of Electromechanics at CECyTE, was scraping the wall to make it ready for her.
"I want to work at Ternium and I am preparing for it," assured the 15-year-old. "I want to continue studying Mechatronics and Robotics, and work here in my municipality, helping my community as they have helped me."
