In a world where the means of steel transportation have not changed during decades, the new ultralight platform will allow the shipping of up to two steel rolls, instead of only one, in each trip, which adds - along with the light tractor combination - up to 43 tons.
This innovation was developed thanks to the coordination of different areas in Ternium: Supply Chain, Quality, Exiros, ProSMEs, and the Transport cluster, as well as the participation of the contractor companies of Ternium CASTA Transports and Lozano Trailers. This teamwork fortifies the industrial network.
The ultralight platform represents a monthly gas-saving, as well as a lesser number of drivers exposed to the viral risk.
Pedro Perez, Traffic and Ports Manager in the Supply Chain Management, explained: “this represents something fundamental because what it tells you is that everything can be innovated. There are always ways to improve transportation."
Light platforms great benefits
“This is a reflection of a well done and well-implemented collaborative business case; it can become a success story that impacts main indicators such as security, environment, and economical,” said Guadalupe Olvera, ProSMEs Business Manager.
The ultralight platform is the future of steel transportation
This project will allow the development of engineering tools that may be utilized in other industries such as the automobile one, where they are already working with high resistance steel.
Without a doubt, this new development is the turning point of the way we transport steel in the industry, due to its capabilities of optimization and maximization of the load in each trip done.
