A new member joined the medical team at Hospital Clínica Nova, last August 4th, in Monterrey, México: Temi, an artificial intelligence robot that allows virtual consultation for COVID-19 patients.
The autonomous, self-hovering robot, will tour different areas within Hospital Clínica Nova, as well as Ternium´s Community Hospital, assisting doctors and nursing staff between these consultations.
Through Temi, who has an integrated camera and voice system, patients will be able to see doctors and nurses onscreen, as if they were doing so face to face. The robot will be controlled remotely via a mobile app available on iOS and Android.
“In those places where the quantity of patients exceeds the capacities of medical and nursing staff, this type of technology helps us obtain that interaction and be able to detect early signs and symptoms, helping us give more appropriate treatment,” said Jose Luviano, coordinator for Critical Areas from Hospital Clínica Nova.
Hospital Clínica Nova is the first medical institution using this technology in Nuevo León´s metropolitan area.
“This robot will help the medical area without the need to be inside a COVID-19 risk area. Therefore, we will have the opportunity that several specialized doctors can have more direct access, without actually being there in person”, highlighted Carlos Chavez, Nova´s Administrative Director.
Furthermore, Ladislao Guerra, chief of Systems at Nova, specified that Temi´s integration aims to protect both patients and doctors against coronavirus.
“It is the first effort to take advantage of technology to meet the new requirements and needs that are emerging in the current environment in which we live,” he said.
With virtual consultation technologies such as these, Ternium and Clínica Nova Hospital are leading the way in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
