During a virtual event, the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of United Mexican States recognized the companies that won the Ethics and Values of the Industry award; Máximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium, was present at the ceremony.
In the nineteenth edition of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (CONCAMIN) Ethics and Values of the Industry (EVI) award, Ternium was recognized for its corporate social responsibility and community support for COVID-19.
The company was awarded the Ethics and Values of the Industry award, which highlights the efforts of chambers, associations, and companies to promote the principles of corporate social responsibility in their operations.
Ternium also received the Best Business Practice award in the category of Health and Wellness for the inauguration of the Community Hospital at the Nova Club, in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León.
Máximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium, received both awards in an online ceremony on August 30th. Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of Economy of Mexico, Roberto Salcedo Aquino, Secretary of Public Administration, and Francisco Cervantes Díaz, President of CONCAMIN also attended the ceremony.
“This morning we received the CONCAMIN Ethics and Values of the Industry award and the Best Business Practice award in the category of Health and Wellness for our Community Hospital in Monterrey. It was an honor to receive them on behalf of all of us who are part of Ternium,” said Vedoya via Twitter.
The Ethics and Values of the Industry award evaluate the system and methodology enforced by a company to organize, disseminate, measure, and improve the incorporation of the corporate social responsibility culture and sustainable development.
Ternium also received the Best Business Practice award in the category of Health and Wellness for the inauguration of the Community Hospital.
The company is graded on points such as work relationships, environmental preservation, responsible products and services, among others. An example of this commitment to social responsibility was the 460 million dollars investment by Ternium announced at the end of February 2021, destined for environmental improvement projects for plants in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina.
“I hope that the discussion and exchange of experiences and best practices with other companies allow the existing challenges to move forward and set an example; especially, to raise the goal so that the rest of the companies can move towards a scheme of ethics, commitment, and social responsibility,” said Clouthier at the event to more than 90 people.
On the other hand, the Best Business Practice award evaluates actions focused on four Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations: Gender equality, good health and well-being, decent work and economic worth, and climate action.
The Community Hospital of Ternium is one of the most outstanding actions to support the community in the face of COVID-19. The hospital began operations in April 2020 and received 444 patients until March 2021. It was then reopened in August of this year to support the authorities of Nuevo León in the face of the third wave of the pandemic.
“This is one of the most important things for us at CONCAMIN, to recognize the companies that have good practices and have been doing so for a long time,” said Cervantes Díaz.
