Students from public High Schools in Santa Cruz and CEFET-Itaguaí have until March 15 to compete in the 4th Excellence in Studies Award, promoted by Ternium. Intended also for vocational schools, the award will be granted to 200 students, in a total investment of 100.000 dollars committed by the steel mill to the program. Students can apply on the website.
Developed by Ternium in 2019, the Excellence Award seeks to recognize students with high performance in the studies in order to encourage school graduation, value the culture of effort and academic excellence among the youth in Rio’s West Zone and Itaguaí. In the three previous editions, Ternium has allocated 319 scholarships to public school students through the initiative. The company invests more than two million dollars a year in the social and economic development of Santa Cruz and the region, through social projects focusing on education that serve more than 9,000 people directly.
The award certificate presentation ceremony used to be in person before the pandemic.
Ternium Brazil Community Relations Manager Fernanda Candeias points out that valuing education is one of Ternium’s main pillars, not only in Brazil but in all the communities where the company is located. “We believe that education is the greatest agent of social change. It is through quality education that we develop better human beings and, consequently, a better community and society. We are proud to be able to contribute to initiatives such as the Excellence Award in Rio’s West Zone,” she highlighted.
This award is annual, and the student can compete again at each edition, potentially being awarded in the three years of High School, in the case of regular schools, or four, in the case of vocational schools. More details about the award can be found in the rules.
