Ternium made a donation to the community of Palmar de Varela, Atlántico, in light of the damage caused by heavy rains recently in the region.
Ternium donated 300 mattresses to the families that were affected by the rains in Palmar de Varela, who had been relocated due to flooding in the streets and eastern residential areas of the town. A rainstorm affected the municipality this past Monday, August 31st, causing streams and swamps to overflow.
Ternium made the donation to the local government, whose head is the mayor of Palmar de Varela, Galdino Orozco Fontalvo, and to members of his cabinet, who were in charge of distributing the mattresses among those affected by the rainy season.
“We are always attentive to the needs of the population. We were able to manage the resources in record time to provide a timely response to the community and support them in this situation,” said Claudia García, Talent Management Analyst at Ternium.
The industrial center of the company in Palmar de Varela is dedicated to the production of long steel such as rebars and compact coils, in which more than 280 billion pesos have been invested.
Supporting the communities is an essential matter to Ternium. Added to this donation, is the renovation of an educational area for 45 children with disabilities at the Institución Educativa Técnica Comercial e Industrial on the community of El Pradito, which was carried out by the Ternium Volunteer Program last April.
In the near future, the company also plans to deliver chairs and desks for the National Apprenticeship Service (SENA, for its acronym in Spanish) in the Divino Niño branch, to equip the classrooms where the community will receive computer courses.
