For the sixth time, the company was recognized by worldsteel for its commitment to sustainable development.
Ternium was one of the 10 companies recognized this year with the Sustainability Champion award for its efforts during 2023. This recognition is given to members of worldsteel who clearly demonstrate their commitment and actions for sustainable development.
This time, Máximo Vedoya received the award from the Management Committee at an event held in London, England. Paolo Rocca, Chairman of the Techint Group and CEO of Tenaris, was also present and received the award for that company.
To be eligible for the award, companies must provide Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data for at least 60% of crude steel production over the past five years. They also need to make the shortlist in one of the six categories of the Steelie Awards or have been awarded in the worldsteel Safety and Health Recognition.
Last year, Ternium was also a winner at the Steelie Awards in the Excellence in Education and Training category, this time for the Continuous Casting Simulator project developed in Brazil. It was also a finalist in the Excellence in Sustainability category with ProPymes, a nomination it shared with Tenaris.
As an additional requirement, companies must submit an annual Sustainability Report. You can consult Ternium's here .
The company continues working to achieve the objectives of the Decarbonization Roadmap, which aims to reduce the intensity of emissions by 2030. Investments such as the wind farm in Olavarría, Argentina, and the new steel mill in Pesquería, Mexico, which is projected to be the most sustainable and modern in all of Latin America, are part of the actions we are taking to achieve this goal.
