For the fifth time in a row, this award is received from worldsteel because of our commitment to sustainable development.
The steel industry is looking to make all its processes as sustainable as its main material. For this, Ternium is one of the 10 companies recognized this year with the Sustainability Champion Award because of its work in 2022.
The award recognizes all worldsteel members who demonstrate in a clear way their commitment and actions for sustainable development.
For a company to be considered Sustainability Champion, it must sign the worldsteel Sustainability Charter, which must provide evidence of meeting the 20 criteria covering the fields of environment, society and economics.
It should also provide Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) of at least 60% of the company’s crude steel production and should be less than 5 years old. It must as well be shortlisted in one of the six categories of the Steelie Awards or be recognized in the Safety and Health Recognition Programme.
Last year, Ternium won the Steelie Award in the category Excellence in education and training with the Skills Certification Program for Risk Tasks, as well as being shortlisted in the categories Excellence in low-carbon steel production for its carbon capture project and Excellence in communications programs for Safety Day.
As an additional requisite, the companies must present a Sustainability Report annually. You can consult Ternium’s here.
