This year, Ternium received nominations for four projects in the categories of Innovation, Training, and Communications. Learn more about the importance of these recognitions.
On Monday, October 14, in Brussels, Belgium, the winners of the Steelie Awards were announced— the highest awards in the steel industry given by worldsteel. In this edition, Ternium was a finalist in the categories of Innovation of the Year, Excellence in Education and Training, and Excellence in Communication Programmes.
Tenaris, a company that is also part of the Techint Group, received its nomination in the category of Excellence in Sustainability for its first wind farm project in Argentina.
The Steelie Awards have been presented since 2013 to projects that contribute to the positioning of the steel industry. Participating in this awards ceremony and achieving at least one nomination is a crucial requirement for obtaining the Sustainability Champion certification, a recognition that Ternium has maintained for six consecutive years.

- Innovation of the Year
In this category, Ternium received a double nomination. The first was for a project focused on waste and nitrogen control in electric arc furnaces for the automotive industry and high-end applications. This included both technical developments and fine-tuning of operational practices that led to a certified process for producing the highest quality steel with the least environmental impact, which is not only aligned with Ternium’s Decarbonization Roadmap but also involves numerous pending patents.
The second project revolves around steel solutions to optimize heavy load transport. Ground transportation of steel presents several challenges, including safety, load efficiency per trip, and load reduction—actions that impact fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The team presented two solutions to tackle these issues: one that reduces the weight of trailers and another that extends their lifespan. Both incorporate the use of recycled materials and demonstrate that steel is indeed part of a greener, safer, and more resilient future.
- Excellence in Education and Training
For the third consecutive year, the company received a nomination in this category, this time for its leadership programs aimed at cultural transformation. The project encompasses the role of leaders as the driving force behind the company's integration—now with the challenges of expansion and inclusion of Usiminas. Key axes of the transformation sought through these programs include the commitment of individuals, sustainability of talent flow, the leadership ecosystem, and an inclusive culture. A total of 23 projects were presented in this category, and this was one of the five selected.
- Excellence in Communication Programmes
In this category, the nominated project was the campaign "Steel for the Mobility of the Future." This campaign began with the creation of a representative image during a press conference to announce the location of the new steel mill and evolved into a communication strategy that organically reached the general public, specialized press, and educational organizations.
The campaign positioned steel as a key material for creating future mobility, an objective represented through a website that garnered over 100,000 visits. Additionally, it established Ternium as a leader in transforming the municipality of Pesquería into a technology hub for the future.
