Ternium and Hospital Clínica Nova donate medical equipment used during the COVID-19 pandemic to public hospitals in Nuevo León.
The Ternium Community Hospital, which helped care for the population affected by the COVID-19 virus in Nuevo León, will continue to benefit people's health for many years ahead. Its high-tech equipment was donated to the state's public health services to continue its use for treating people who lack medical insurance.
This health unit, set up in the Ternium Nova Club facilities, had a capacity of 100 beds, plus 10 in the Intensive Care Unit, which helped to increase hospital care during the pandemic. During its operation, both in this health space and in the Vaccination Center, more than 40.000 people of all ages were attended.
The donation consists of 170 pieces of equipment, including stretchers, beds, ventilators, monitors, specialized equipment, and various materials such as oximeters and defibrillators, representing an investment of more than US$700,000.
This equipment -which is in excellent condition- will be destined to different public health units located in the municipalities of Monterrey, Juarez, Pesqueria, Escobedo, Sabinas Hidalgo, Cerralvo, Galeana, Dr. Arroyo, Linares, Montemorelos, Allende and Santiago.
“We are culminating a series of actions we carried out during the pandemic, among them, the operation of the Vaccination Center and other donations of equipment, furniture, and material. In this way, we are reaching more distant and more vulnerable municipalities, seeking to alleviate many of their needs and thus continue to have a positive impact on our communities,” said Allyson Treviño, Community Relations Senior Manager Ternium.
In general, the main patients who will benefit from the equipment will be those in serious condition or who require intensive care in the treatment of various ailments.
“It is a pleasure for us to continue helping people,” said Jose Antonio Luviano, Medical Manager Hospital & Critical Areas Nova - Mexico: “It was incredible how the pandemic generated a great solidarity from many people, doctors, nurses, administrative staff, engineers, maintenance team, which continues for those who need it most.
Cristina Rodriguez, Principal Nurse Obstetrics Area - Mexico, added that this initiative practically donates the entire Community Hospital to continue multiplying its benefits: “It was an exciting learning experience. We were able to break professional schemes, react, and adapt to change. It was a success thanks to the fact that we all worked in the same way, so we hope that it will continue to benefit many families and that this noble task carried out by Ternium will continue to bear fruit", he said.
The delivery took place at the Nova Theater where Orfelio Serna, Director of Hospitals of the Nuevo Leon Health Services, received the equipment.
“Public care systems are constantly in the process of improving their infrastructure and given the number of patients we serve it is always nice to receive equipment to do it in the best way,” commented the specialist.
Juana María Cerda, Director of the Hospital Metropolitano “Dr. Bernardo Sepúlveda”, recalled that the Community Hospital was a great ally in expanding the capacity during the contingency, but also allowed benchmarking on the health care model. “The pandemic opened a window for us to identify deficiencies in chronic disease care, so now we are focusing on early childhood, high-cost diseases, heart attack problems, overweight and obesity, in order to compare care protocols,” he said.
In the case of the Hospital Regional Materno Infantil de Alta Especialidad, one of the largest beneficiary units, the equipment will support the care received by women and their newborns, as well as patients who may present complications during pregnancy. Around 900 babies are born in this institution every month.
“The equipment will allow us to make more efficient transfers and provide more comfort to our patients. The society of Monterrey, through the private sector, has always supported the vulnerable population and this synergy makes us stronger,” concluded Aquiles Quiroga, General Director.
