Buying local products is one of the greatest indicators of confidence in quality and local manufacturing processes. In the steel industry, this support is provided by the Colombian Steel seal, which makes products made in Colombia visible, thus boosting the country's economy.
Steel is a basic input in the progress and life quality of society, as it is part of most of the objects with which we interact on a daily basis. Frying pans, refrigerators, and building structures are only some examples of the use of this material that reinvents itself through its alternative uses.
The Colombian steel industry assumes this responsibility by complying with all the guarantees of resistance, durability, and flexibility of the material. The action of “Buying formal, building legal”, an initiative led by the ANDI Colombian Steel Manufacturers Committee, aims to make visible the joint efforts in the interest of using high-quality steel made in Colombia through campaigns that encourage its use and the purchase of national manufacturing.
With the Colombian Steel seal, all distributors, builders, main constructors, and laborers of the construction can verify if products are 100% Colombian and contribute positively to the national company by buying and using them.
Benefits of using Colombian Steel
Using local products encourages the country's economical development and benefits the dynamics of the domestic market. In addition to this, there are other benefits of buying Colombian steel that Ternium promotes:
- Generating Employment Opportunities: In Ternium, we have 1,600 employees in our service and distribution centers in Bogota, Medellín, Cali, Monteria, Barranquilla, Manizales, and Bucaramanga, and other 2,700 in the value chain. In this way, we have a social and economic impact on hundreds of families in several cities of the country. The steel industry also generates 45,000 jobs.
- Reduction of Environmental Impact: Steel is a 100% recyclable material and can be used multiple times to develop new production cycles. That is why it is our priority to implement new technologies that minimize the impact of operations and optimize the use of all resources. Ternium is tantamount to circular economy in Colombia. We recycle more than 200,000 tons of scrap in our plants and convert 30,000 tons of waste into by-products each year, which are used as raw material. In addition, 610 tons of CO2 are captured and reused in other industrial processes. In the Ternium Industrial Center at Palmar de Varela, energy is 100% renewable and 98% of the water is recovered.
