Five generations of Roberto Rocca Technical School graduates in Pesquería, Mexico, gather to share experiences and strengthen professional opportunities.
For all the young people who graduated from the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Pesquería, Mexico, the present and future are different from what they imagined. In addition to having a broader professional horizon, most of them have been able to continue their studies and grow personally.
601 young people from 2019 to date have completed their technical careers in Electromechanics and Mechatronics. Half of them met again at the second edition of the ETRR Alumni Reunion.
This is a space created for alumni to keep in touch and continue to develop, said Efrén Castillo, director of the institution, as he welcomed them.
"The purpose is to continue building community," added Manuel Héctor Martínez, Human Resources Senior Director, who was guest of honor.
"When we arrived in Pesquería, this municipality had a population of 20,000 people; today it has 120,000. With our plant, Ternium’s largest facility, we have grown together with the community, impacting the lives of people like you. We are proud of what you are achieving," said Martinez.
For the meeting, an agenda was prepared with interaction and networking dynamics and a talk about Ternium's training programs. Also, the renowned mountaineer Alex Villarreal gave a motivational talk to the attendees.
And what are they doing?
Young people recalled school anecdotes and updated themselves on their classmates and friends' activities and interests. "I didn't think I would get to do so much," said Edwin Garza, Global Trainee in the Cold Rolling area of the Guerrero Plant.
After graduating as part of the first generation, Edwin studied Mechatronics Engineering and now continues his studies for a master’s degree in industrial process management at the Universidad Regiomontana, while at the same time contributing his knowledge and learning at the plant.
"ETRR changed the direction of my life, I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't come here. I want to thank Ternium for this project. I wanted to continue with the company to give something back with my service," said the 22-year-old.
Valeria Ortiz is currently doing a degree in psychology. In addition to the technical knowledge, she recalled with appreciation the tools and collaborative work she put into practice during her courses at ETRR, which has helped her in her current training.
"My career plan is to choose a clinical orientation, but I will always have the option to choose work psychology and work in industry because here I was given the basics and I learn a lot from the experiences of my colleagues who are already working," she indicated.
Maria Teresa Mendoza, who graduated from Mechatronics in 2021, agreed. "I am only 22 years old, and I have already worked in too many things, it is impossible to stagnate with all that I have learned. I already worked in the Maintenance area in a company and now I work as a welder, yes, it is unusual, but I like it and I can get the job out just like the others."
The meeting was an interesting encounter for her. Meeting her classmates again, seeing that some of them have even started their own families has been fascinating, the same for Samira Herrera, one of the most recent graduating class. She is currently in her third semester of Industrial Design.
Luis Carlos Vargas, now a financial engineer, is proud of the CV he already has at the age of 22. To have studied at a renowned school such as ETRR and to be an intern at Ternium opened an unexpected professional path for him.
"After my internship in the Treasury and Finance area of Ternium, I made a radical decision: to move from the electromechanical area to the financial area. It is much easier for me to make budgets and industrial improvement projects because I have the technical concepts to understand them. And I owe it to ETRR", he concluded.
